Master Objectives:
At the end of the year, students will…
• be able to follow simple instructions in French.
• be able to exchange basic information in French by using formulaic questions and answering with a variety of vocabulary.
• be able to name and locate on a map various francophone countries and give some information specific to that country.
• have created a passport portfolio that shows mastery of concepts and progress throughout the year.
• be able to sing various songs in French
Assessments:
Oral and conversational ability will be assessed while or after playing interactive games that cause the students to use the language. The teacher may ask the student directly or grade while students ask each other and respond. Vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation and word gender memorization will be assessed by quizzes that are both oral and written.
Throughout the course of the year, students will also create a passeport to show what they have learned as we ‘travel’ around the francophone world.
Grading categories and weights:
Role play/ singing/ participation 20%
Oral and written quizzes 30%
Oral and written projects 30%
Homework 20%
Please note: Many quizzes and projects will be reported in powergrade and on the wiki as multiple grades. This is done in order to provide more detailed feedback on the students’ performance. For example I will distinguish between vocabulary recognition, spelling, and grammatical concepts. The intent is to allow the students to recognize what they do well and what specific skills they need to improve.
