Students will learn to read, write, speak, and understand French.
A developmental approach to the acquisition of essential vocabulary will build upon different themes at each level. The main language used in the class is French. In some stages a bilingual approach is used to explain grammar or to introduce cultural concepts, especially at the early levels. It is most important to note that the target language is used extensively and it is the student’s responsibility to work with the teacher to master this essential oral component of the course.
Goals:
Our goal in these courses is to provide a clear presentation of the four skills in acquiring a language: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, along with a tour through the cross-cultural realities of the francophone world. Attention will be given to the uses of French in the global community, understanding differences as well as commonalities throughout the world. It is key to recognize the importance of using French in the classroom to create a competent speaker and reader of the language.
Requirements:
I would like each student to make his / her best effort when speaking, listening to, reading and writing the language. Grades will be given for: participation, oral and group work in class, projects, presentations, quizzes, chapter tests and semester exams.

A few words of advice from Mademoiselle:
I have only two ‘rules’ actually, and they are:
Use your common sense.
Do the right thing.
If you do that, then the following will just come naturally to you:
1. Be prepared. If you are given French homework on a Tuesday, do it on Tuesday night. Please do not wait until the night before it is due to do it!
2. Be neat. Keep everything in a binder.
3. Be well behaved. (Ça va sans dire!)
